Invasion of Newcastle 1796 battle

[Light blue marks fords and bridges]

Initial dispositions of French and British forces on the Tyne (between Hexham and Newcastle - See 1796 page for map of the area) The French are short of supplies but have left a trail of destruction through the heart of the industrial north (paper mills, coal mines and lead mines burnt down) Their forces have been moving North west with the intent of moving down the Tyne to Newcastle. The five British comanders have finaly managed to converge their forces. The public is turning against them so they must seek a decisive victory.

British:
1 Duke of Northumberland (Hugh Percy) & Major General Balfour.
2 Field Marshal John Griffin, 4th Baron Howard de Walden & Prince William of Gloucester (CinC)
3 Lord Mulgrave
4 General Osburne
5 General Dalrymple

French:
1 Chef-de-Brigade Pierre Macon
2 General Pierre Quantin (CinC) & Chef-de-Brigade Joseph-Théodore Clerc
3 Legion Noire General Bonnaud

The game is being played solo using General D'Armee rules. The orders for the French are provided by e-mail from a friend. (I will write the British orders before I 'open' the French) After the initial moves I will invite order changes - though the fog of war will delay those! Im using a system based on Principles of War to 'force' brigades to follow their orders.
